Artist Statement

My practice is rooted in finding comfort and order through painting while examining the overlooked histories of women and female artists. As a female artist, I draw on extensive research into women’s history to uncover stories of creativity and resistance that exist outside dominant, male-centered narratives. Historically, painting has been positioned as a male pursuit while textiles were relegated to women’s labor; my work seeks to merge these traditions, allowing craft and fine art to inform one another rather than compete. Using acrylic and oil paint, I translate textile patterns, fabric structures, and decorative motifs into layered, textured compositions that operate on a micro-to-macro scale, where small details accumulate into complex wholes. Working entirely by hand, without stencils or stamps, I embrace imperfection as a marker of human labor and historical continuity. Influenced by the Pattern and Decoration movement of the 1970s–80s, as well as global textile traditions, architecture, and decorative arts, I have developed a visual language that elevates female craft to equal footing with fine art. My work honors both the women who created these textiles and those who lived with them, positioning painting as a space where history, material, and personal comfort converge.
